From humble beginnings as a simple seed trying
to push my way up through the dirt and into the garden that is my UT
community, I have always had a passion for the pure and wholesome things in
life. I started out as an environmental science major with a vision of saving
the world and dancing in the trees – quite the vision, I know. But, a few semesters
and outdoor labs later, touring local organic farms and gardens, I was pulled
up out of the dirt and into the sun. I suddenly knew that my path was changing
directions. From volunteering at the Concho community garden to frequenting the
local farmers market, I was changing and growing into the person I was meant to
be. I am a die-hard foodie, and that’s what originally pulled me into the whole
farm and garden thing. Soon, my health, fitness and Whole Foods obsession lead
me to the right major. I soon found myself at a nutrition club meeting, and the
rest is history. Since becoming a nutrition major, I have found my niche as a
runner, yoga enthusiast, baker, food experimenter, and founder of the –
wait for it – UT beekeeping club. I have burst out of the dirt, flaunting my
petals, and am flourishing here at The
University of Texas. Austin is my
home - and I owe it all to the school that brought out the
beekeeper-fitness-freak in me that was just waiting to bloom.
